Summary | Should be stronger on the need for low carbon transport as an integral part of sustainable tourism |
Comment | The preamble fails to acknowledge the extent to which the current tourism economy is almost entirely car based. As we develop the tourism potential of the District, now would be the ideal time to be putting major emphasis on correcting this problem. This should include ambitions to radically improve public transport connectivity and cycle paths so visitors can enjoy what the District has to offer without getting in their cars. |
Proposed Change | The policy should make explicit mention of the need to de-carbonise the tourism sector and be much more forthright in requiring this. No major tourism developments should be allowed that do not have active measures to enable low-carbon transport. |
