Strategic policy 11 – Tourism Facilities...

WSLAF believes that well connected PRoW and leisure routes from communities out and into the countryside will contribute to tourism and will boost local economies. It should be recognised that informal recreation (walking, cycling, horse riding), is a major contributor to the rural economy, bringing many tourists to the District. However, further development can result in even more fragmentation of PRoW and as the growth in both volume and speed of traffic, on rural roads and lanes increases, it makes them unsafe for vulnerable users. This is likely to have a detrimental effect on the visitor economy and tourism in the area. The Policies adopted should ensure that increased development does not hinder enhancements to the visitor economy, and ideally the policy should actively consider how PRoW can be developed to help support and increase tourism and visitors
